Getting Your Business Unstuck
How long has that email been sitting in your inbox? The one you opened, thought “I’ll deal with that properly later,” and closed again. Later was three weeks ago.
Or what about the website? The one that’s “nearly there.” Your friend designed you a logo, you’ve written most of the copy, you just need to get the content in, sort the contact page and actually press publish. That was six months ago.
Or maybe it’s the spreadsheet that was supposed to track everything but now exists in four versions saved as “final,” “actual final,” “ACTUAL final,” and “USE THIS ONE PLEASE”, none of which you actually use.
We all have a pile. The tasks that aren’t urgent enough to panic about but won’t quite leave us alone. The things that live permanently on next week’s to do list. The stuff that sits there quietly, judging you, while you decide today is not the day.
If something keeps getting moved to next week, it’s not that you are lazy or don’t care, it’s usually because you are stuck. Stuck is caring very much but not quite knowing where to start, or not having the time, or just finding that particular thing deeply annoying every time you look at it. That is just being human.
Not that long ago, I found myself stuck too. I was in a career I had once loved, but things had shifted and it was time for a change. So I did something scary and started my own business.
Starting my Virtual Assistance business was one of the biggest leaps I’ve ever taken, but it reminded me of something important: sometimes the hardest part is simply getting started.
That’s why I love helping other people move those long forgotten tasks from “I’ll do it later” to “finally done”.
So, what does a Virtual Assistant actually do?
A virtual assistant supports small businesses remotely with the admin, systems, and tasks that keep getting pushed to next week. People haven’t always heard of Virtual Assistance, and I get asked some version of “but what exactly do you do?” a lot, mostly because my services are so varied.
Email Management. Diary Planning. Travel Arrangements. Employee Benefits Support. Website Creation. Spreadsheets. Custom Trackers. Notion Workspaces. Booking Systems. Data Management. Admin Support for Small Teams. AI Tools. The list goes on.
The well meaning advice is always the same: Niche down, specialise, pick one thing and be known for it.
Great advice, but there is a problem with that. I am brilliant at loads of things, I would be absolutely wasted with one niche!
Then it suddenly made sense, the one thing I am known for isn’t a service at all, it is an outcome.
I realised I do have a niche after all.
I specialise in getting things unstuck!
Because being stuck looks completely different depending on who you are. For one person it is the inbox that has become a full time source of dread. For another it is the business idea that never quite got its website. For someone else it is the systems that were supposed to save time but somehow made everything more complicated. Maybe it’s all three.
What they all have in common is that feeling, that low level hum of something unfinished, the tab that has been open so long you’ve stopped seeing it.
That is where I come in. Not with a rigid list of services you have to squeeze yourself into, but with the much more useful question: “Right then, what are we actually dealing with here?”
Sometimes it takes an hour, sometimes a week. Sometimes it is a one off fix and you never need me again, sometimes it is the beginning of something ongoing. But either way, you get to close the tab. Properly this time.
So, what is it for you? The inbox? The website? The spreadsheet? The task that keeps getting pushed to next week?
Whatever it is, you don’t have to stay stuck.
If you’d rather start small, my Quick Wins are exactly for this, small, flat fee tasks to get one specific thing sorted, with no ongoing commitment needed.
You know where I am if you need to get unstuck.
